When I consider what I do within my art “business” and why, I ask myself, how is this beneficial? Well, creating your own artwork is very beneficial to your own being – that is, if you let yourself do what “feeds” you creatively. However, there is more to it than that!!

I’ve chosen to do commissions, murals and painting events as well. I do these things because I really like interacting with people and creating something that also “feeds them”. To provide something that enriches the lives of others somehow feels like something I need to do. It never ceases to amaze me how much enjoyment someone can get looking into a large mural painted to beautify a space and capture imagination. For me, that experience is made so much better when someone feels part ownership in the ideas. I love that process.

Perhaps even more surprising to me, is the way people feel when they themselves create something for the first time, or for the first time in a long time. During the P-art-Y N!ghts, I hear quips from people all the time about their lack of artistic ability. “I can’t paint!” and “I’m horrible at anything creative.” And every time, these same work through their lack of confidence during only a few hours to achieve a level of comfort and excitement in what they actually CAN do. It’s so important for us as people to lay fear down at the door, no matter what we are doing, and just try. Once we open ourselves to POSSIBILITY, we open ourselves up to ABILITY: The innate ability we all have to create something. Let that creative little bugger out to play sometimes!!!

I choose to paint murals – even though I am putting myself out there to paint in public – because there is more to be gained in the shared experience. And I put on the painting events because I really love to make people comfortable, relax and just enjoy the experience. It’s extremely rewarding to make a connections through all facets of my art.
