I had said that I wanted to create a piece in honour of my Dad. He passed this past February and I finally felt that I could put my heart into something meaningful without being gripped by deep grief. At the same time, I worried as my daughter was about to complete elementary school and would move on to high school with all of its unknowns. I looked back on this past year and realized that, in life, as we come to these metaphoric bridges, it’s so important to cross them fearlessly. It’s the only way to see the beauty, light and opportunity that exists on the other side!

So, as I stood with my father last winter and tried to keep him on one side of the bridge, he broke free. He knew it was ok to cross. As I watched my daughter graduate, I also let go of my fears and greeted the new experiences with excitement.

Here is the piece I have created to honour their new adventures, and remind us all that to have wonderful new experiences, we are required to cross an old bridge from time to time. I’ve incorporated the heart of the Sacred Heart logo I’d created at the same time as the painting, as a texture under the painting. I hope you enjoy it.

With love,

Natalie
